Migration and Social Sciences in Lebanon: from emigration to immigration studies?

Résumé

This presentation discusses the writings on migration that have been produced in Lebanon by social scientists. What are they? Which discipline has produced more studies in the domain of social sciences? What is the dominant paradigm that shapes the topics and the conceptual framework of these studies? This presentation shows the dominance of studies on emigration from Lebanon as well as the role played by the Lebanese Diaspora in its home country. The specific case of the development of studies on Palestinian refugees and their settlement in Lebanon is also discussed. This presentation highlight the recent growing studies on immigration in Lebanon with a focus on Arab and non-Arab migrant workers as well as Syrian refugee issue since 2012.
