The droughts in Rennes : past, present and future.
Les sécheresses à Rennes : passé, présent et futur.
Résumé
This study presents the evolution of droughts in Rennes since 1879 (observed data) up to 2100 (projected data). The methods used are the water balance with the choice of the index of the evaporation deficit and the types of annual climate (TCA) using the Köppen classification. The results show the strong inter-annual variability observed for more than a century with some extreme events (1906, 1921, 1976 or 2003) but without a clear trend. The projections of the Météo-France model show, on the other hand, a strong tendency of the deficit to increase during the 21st century as well as the increase of TCAs with hot and dry summers.
