Le sarcophage de la chasse aux lions de Béziers

Résumé

The marble sarcophagus preserved in the church of Saint Aphrodise in Beziers, figures a hunt conducted by riders against lions and wild boars, but also a hunting capture of young lions. It has points in common with sarcophagi produced in Rome, but it is unskillful carved and its composition is dense, even confused. It has been produced around 320 by a regional workshop, perhaps in Arles.
