This research note aims at presenting an overview of the field of sensory discourses. Important publications and recent publications are discussed in order to define the sensory part in these discourses. I then advocate that only a functional-cognitive approach is able to cope with the density and the variety of cognitive phenomena activated in the production/reception of these discourses. The last part of this contribution is dedicated to the exploration of the future evolution of the field. I especially pledge that (i) a multimodal and/or multisensorial perspective, and (ii) an interdisciplinary framework are more than necessary in the enterprise of observing sensory discourses.
