Wuman(s) and non-Wuman(s) in medieval China

Abstract

As someone working on medieval representations of space, I’ve always found ethnographic accounts very relevant to understand the spatial dynamics of power and the way bureaucrats understood and represented the ecumene, especially in its practical dimensions: how long does it take to go from one point to another, how “exotic” goods were produced and exchanged, how various groups of people interacted and inhabited the land, etc.
