Epigraphic Databases and the Ausonius Institute in the era of Digital Humanities
Les bases de données épigraphiques et l'Institut Ausonius à l'ère des Humanités numériques
Résumé
The Institut Ausonius (CNRS-Université Bordeaux-Montaigne) has become a point of reference in France for Digital Humanities applied to the ancient world. Its activities and databa-ses, particularly in the field of epigraphy, are structured through PETRAE, the «Programme d’enregistrement, de traitement et de reconnaissance automatique en épigraphie». This article recounts the history of PETRAE, as well as its technical characteristics and its position in the international panorama, especially in Latin epi-graphy projects. Its adaptation to Gaulish epigraphy will also be presented with the RIIG project. However, in addition to PETRAE, other areas of research and new epigraphic projects have also been developed, such as the ADOPIA project (Atlas Digital Onomastique de la péninsule Ibérique Antique) presented in the second part, the objective of which is to compile and map all the personal names attested in the Latin inscriptions of the ancient Iberian Peninsula.
