The accelerated learning of the public sphere: the case of the yellow vests'movement in France
L'apprentissage accéléré de la sphère publique: le cas des Gilets Jaunes en France
Résumé
Relying on Rosa’s theory of the accelerated society and on Fraser’s theory of the public sphere, we intend to analyze the Yellow vests movement which shook the French Government, between October 2018 and December 2019. Despite its lack of mainstream roots and legitimacy, the movement eventually gained knowledges and skills to reach and stand in the public sphere. In the context of an accelerated society, where individuals are coping with the issues of space and time compressions, as well as a rapid technological obsolescence, the movement was able to set up breathing spaces to think and act, turning away Facebook from entertaining.
