Gender Equality and Socio-Economic Consequences of COVID-19 crisis - Country report on France
Résumé
The country report on France is part of a larger study "Gender equality and socio-economic consequences of the COVID 19 crisis - EIGE/2020/OPER/15" commissioned by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) to IRS - Istituto per la Ricerca Sociale.
The overall objective of the study is to collect and analyse EU-wide information on the socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 crisis on women and men, notably in terms of work-life balance, and thereby to provide new knowledge on the multi-faceted impacts on gender equality as well as gender sensitive ways out of the crisis.
The study focuses on the COVID-19 crisis in order to consider its impacts on gender equality concerning: (i) the labour market situation, working arrangements and incomes; (ii) the work-life balance; (iii) the role recovery measures and, more in general public policies, may have in supporting employment and income.
The study will contribute to:
• providing the necessary evidence to increase and deepening the understanding of the gender equality consequences of the COVID-19 crisis. Study findings will support EIGE in the drafting of its research note to the Presidency of the Council setting the basis for policy discussions at EU level.
• providing the necessary evidence to improve the understanding of the gender equality effects produced by the COVID-19 crisis and of the effectiveness of policy responses. Study findings will support EIGE in the work and update of its Gender Equality Index 2022 with specific regard to the Index domains of work, time and money.
• increasing EIGE’s data sources through the implementation of an EU-wide survey which will provide reliable and timely information on the COVID-19 crisis and gender equality.
The pool of National Researchers of the 10 EU Member States was mainly tasked to draft a Country report on the effectiveness of the national recovery and policy measures to support women and men’s ability to reconcile work, family and personal lives in the context of the COvid-19 crisis.
