Insular Script
Résumé
This chapter surveys Insular script, a writing style practiced in Ireland, Anglo-Saxon England, Wales, possibly Scotland, and on Continental Europe by missionaries. Insular script consists of two writing systems with many different grades, including both majuscule and distinct variations of minuscule. The characteristic letterforms of Insular script as well as its distinctive ligatures and system of abbreviations are discussed and illustrated by a selection of plates with transcriptions.
