« Marcel Proust: the Plasticity of a Modernist Icon »
Résumé
Since the publication of In Search of Lost Time (A la recherche du temps perdu) (1913–1927) Marcel Proust has been regarded as a herald of modernity, and his work has belonged to the canon of world literature since the middle of the twentieth century. The reception of In Search of Lost Time among readers in Europe, the United States, Japan, and Latin America testifies to the plasticity of the text. Indeed, one may ask if the text is eventually lost in favor of an image of a writer called “Proust,” an image whose relativity depends on the cultural and social background of readers all around the world.
