Oman in the Iraqi Imperial Ecosystem during the Early Abbasid and Buyid Periods: Between Constructed Marginality and Political Covetousness, from the Second Half of the 8th Century to the Second Half of the 11th Century
Throughout the medieval period, the history of Oman was characterized by an ambivalent relationship with the center of the Iraqi Empire. The sources produced by Baghdadian historians testify to this process of constructing marginality: considered as the chosen land for heterodoxy, Oman became a border zone. The political geography of the territory was moreover constantly recomposed by invasions and the plasticity of the Ibāḍī imamate.
