“Musique et réflexivité de la littérature”

Résumé

"Musique et réflexivité de la littérature” [“Music and the Reflexivity of Literature”], proposal for an issue accepted by the journal Fabula-LHT, to be published in autumn 2024. It seems important to examine the practical and genealogical conditions of the presence of music in literary theory (or in literature as (self)theory) from the German Romantic period to the present day. What predecessors do the theorists of literariness as musicality claim as their own? In reaction to which “fathers to kill” do they construct their definitions of literature? How, moreover, can we explain the permanence of the musical question in a hyper- and then epimodern literary theory seemingly freed from the dictatorship of the poetic? Finally, is literary theory itself musical, from a stylistic point of view? Could its preferred forms and genres explain the importance it attaches to comparisons with music? These are the guiding questions of this issue.
