Preparatory classes for competitive nursing exams, popular “prep schools”?
Les classes préparatoires aux concours infirmiers, des « prépas » populaires ?
Résumé
This article looks back at the abolition of the nursing entrance examination in the light of the social inequalities it is said to have engendered with the expansion of preparatory classes in France in the 21st century. Following a denunciation of the injustices linked to preparatory practices, this disappearance led us to question the legitimacy of this egalitarian discourse in a context of universitization of nursing care. This research is based on a two-year survey of preparatory classes for competitive nursing examinations in a French departement. Using quantitative methods, the results highlight the match between the Instituts de formations en soins infirmiers (IFSI) population and these preparatory classes.
