L’égyptologue auteur
Résumé
As Philippe Derchain used to develop in his writings at least since his article
“Auteur et société” published in the mid-1990s, the Egyptian author is nothing
without the Egyptological author. From this point of view, this article will examine
the auctorial activity of the Egyptologist as an intermediary between the Egyptian
author and the modern reader. A historiographical approach focuses in particular
on Derchain’s scientific procedures. In this way, the dynamics of intellectual
operations and the tools he employed during his scholarly career in the study of
Egyptian religion more broadly and myth in particular are made accessible. This
results in a heterogeneous interpretive gesture that a comparison with the
reception by the Egyptological reader illuminates, a singular way in which the
epistemic appeal and personal development of the Egyptological author emerge
from the empirical reading of some significant works.
