After presenting both the social and the scientific relevance of real estate development, this entry offers an overview of the main scholarly approaches to its study. It then focuses on the varieties of real estate development, intended as the diverse configurations of state–market relations that organize the production of the built environment. It finally identifies some major debates about current changes in both the politics and capital of real estate development.
