ESLO for FFL in a university context: selection, annotation and accessibility of the ESLO-FLEU sub-corpus

Résumé

The ESLO-FLEU project aims to make the ESLO corpus, les Enquêtes SocioLinguistiques à Orléans, one of the largest linguistic corpora available for spoken French, accessible to a wider community of students and teachers in the field of university FLE. We will present the objectives of the project and the various stages in the preparation of the sub-corpus, which was carried out in two stages. Firstly, the exploration of the corpus was guided by the search for extracts of interest to didactics at several levels. The aim was to : - enhance the corpus' heritage dimension by selecting salient conversational topics and representative passages from the large corpus; - reflect the diversity of speakers and interaction situations represented in the corpus to illustrate variation in French; - identify excerpts that can be used in teaching contexts (primarily university FLE, but also general FLE, and even in other disciplines), given their length and content. The excerpts were then grouped into modules for working on specific linguistic objectives, using linguistic annotations adapted to a student audience. We will discuss the selection and indexing of the extracts, as well as the creation of the modules and the annotation of the extracts, specifying the technical choices made. We conclude with a presentation of how to access the annotated sub-corpus.
