From Palestinian intertwined literary and gastronomy diplomacy… to hunger diplomacy
Abstract
Food isn’t just about filling stomachs, but also an effective instrument to win hearts and minds and tell stories thanks to recipes, tastes, smells, tastes and textures' capacity to create emotional connections. Combining culinary tradition, cultural diplomacy, and nation branding, many countries employ gastronomic diplomacy to promote their culture and raise international awareness of their national identities and cultural heritage. Food and cuisine play an important role in the Palestinian culture, acting as a conveyor of history, identity and heritage. Palestinian literature engages in gastronomic diplomacy by incorporating food and culinary experiences as well as "home produces" into narratives, serving as a medium for cultural diplomacy. The counterpart of gastronomy diplomacy is hunger diplomacy.
