Peano's Logical Language and Grassmann's Legacy
Résumé
The paper aims at showing that Peano did not resume the Boolean distinction between an empty calculus and a full interpreted algebra. For Peano, the construction of a formal symbolism represented the sole way to grasp a certain kind of purely abstract entities which pre-existed the construction of the theory. In this respect, I argue that Peano is a disciple of Grassmann.
