Multifunctionality of pebbles used in the Upper Paleolithic: an ethnographic approach.

Résumé

An ethnographic approach clarifies the function of blocks, pebbles and slabs used in the Palaeolithic. Here a pebble used by a Tuareg family illustrates the frequent multifunctional character of these tools. This character increases the difficulty of interpreting their traces of use, and that recourse to data of an ethnographic nature can bring a not-insignificant bonus of information - or at least a number of original hypotheses.
