VOICES THAT CROSS OVER: ON THE POETIC JOURNEY OF NANCY MOREJÓN IN APARTHEID SOUTH AFRICA
“Una Voz Atravesada: El viaje poético de Nancy Morejón al Apartheid Sudafricano”
Résumé
The article examines the circulation of discourses against apartheid in South Africa (1948-1990) in the Cuban and Latin American literary and cultural fields, taking as a case study two texts by the Afro Caribbean author Nancy Morejón: the collection of poems Baladas para un sueño (1989) and the chronicle essay “Viaje a Suráfrica” (1995). These texts have not yet been the object of research. The article contextualizes the anti-apartheid internationalist cultural movement in an innovatory fashion, and its relationship with the Cuban and Latin American decolonial culture. The analytic
approach is focused on the study of the intertextuality of these works and identifies an intertextual fiel d composed of radical discourses of various historical literary moments. The work leads to the conclusion that the texts by Morejón reinforce the author's PanAfricanist poetic identity.
