Promoting embodiment through education in the Anthropocene
Résumé
Human beings have had an indelible impact on our planet. Its habitability has been inexorably altered, and we are now in what is known as the Anthropocene Epoch (a geological age shaped not by nature but by human activity). This new geological era brings two threats: the first, ecological; the second, purely political. This contemporary political shift can be drawn upon for educational purposes. Indeed, the trend in politics is toward separating people and cloistering them, which represents a regression in the bodily experience. Consequently, we need to redesign the way we experience our bodies which includes active participation in the living world and consider how to promote embodiment through education in the Anthropocene, against the backdrop of enlivenment (Verlebendigung).
