Pendentifs estampés de l’Antiquité tardive découverts en France

Résumé

Two glass pendants, circular and stamped, with a suspension loop, were recently discovered in Late Antique necropolises in the French Alps. It seemed appropriate to gather all the objects of this type— probably imported from the Near East and dating to Late Antiquity—discovered on French territory. The wide dispersion of the 14 specimens listed shows the popularity of these amulets, which were thought to have protective powers. Their varied figurations are part of small or very abundant series. This note complements the distribution map published in 2013 by Entwistle and Finney.
